Biographical Text

Harry Rugg was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. His father was from New Hampshire and his mother, Octavia Green from Missouri. He Married Ellen Marie (Bradden) Rugg in 1919.

In the 20's he worked as a hotel waiter, and he and Marie lived for a short time at 910 S Street with his maternal grandmother Anna Carnahan. This was a large extended family household and consisted of his mother Octavia Carnahan, cousins - John Ray, Anna Ray, Alfred Ray, Victor Ray and Clifton Green and Two lodgers M.C. Mcghee and Robert Anderson.

In the 1927 Harry began working as a Pullman Porter and his wife was servant for a private family. They owned their home on 2218 W Street and his mother Octavia and lodger Ruby Webb lived with them at this time. The home was valued at $2,000.

In 1942 they purchased another home on 251 South 20th Street . Harry and as a retired porter Harry worked as a laborer and they lived there with their three sons, James C., Jesse F., and William S. until his death in 1947.
