Biographical Text

Alice Carriger was born November 10, 1868 and she married her first cousin John Carriger in St Andrew, Missouri on 28th February, 1886. Their fathers Samuel and Christopher were brothers.

Alice had two sisters Elizabeth (Nettie) and Ida V. and one brother George. She and John had seven children: Royal , Lena, Samuel, Evelyn, Elnora, Blanch, Carl Emmet and Lula. John was a farmer while they lived in Missouri and Alice did not work at that time.

When they moved to Lincoln the couple opened a Rooming House on South 9th Street, near the train station that was a home to the Pullman Porters who laid over in Lincoln. At her death in 1939, Alice had 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
