A TAPESTRY OF VOICES:EXPLORING PERSONAL STORIES OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA

This project explores the personal stories of the generations that lived through the Civil Rights Movement. These personal narratives are distributed among archives in various collections around the country and this project attempts to examine a selection of interviews across the collections. A Tapestry of Voices uses Voyant, an online text analysis tool, to explore the content of the personal stories of the civil rights period and the various experiences of these individuals across the states.

THE PULLMAN PORTERS OF LINCOLN NEBRASKA

This project is the beginning of an exploration of the contributions of the Lincoln Pullman Porters to the downtown communities and the City of Lincoln.   Through an examination of documents, newspapers and artifacts from national and local museums, local African American newspapers,  personal stories and community contributions, the project will plot the residencies and collate stories of their lives and their community.

Exploring Plessy v. Ferguson. 1896 : Using historical evidence

This site uses the Plessy v. Ferguson. 1896  court case to teach students how to turn archival sources into historical evidence. Students examine court documents, commentaries, newspapers, paintings, photographs and other records and relics  to make sense of the controversy surrounding the “Separate but Equal’ doctrine.
